Job Description

Opportunity at a Glance
The DVM program at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) consists of seven semesters of preclinical training integrated with clinical training on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean, and an additional year of clinical training at one of 32 affiliated veterinary medical schools. The goal of the program is to provide students with a hands-on, student-centered, outcomes based preparatory training experience that adequately meets the clinical year expectations and addresses clinical competencies, as defined by AVMA and adapted by RUSVM. To support the program, RUSVM is committed to recruiting colleagues that are dedicated to the delivery of an innovative and effective curriculum with integration of clinical skills that enhance our practice ready training. To achieve this, RUSVM provides basic medical, surgical, and communication skills throughout an 8-credit Essential Veterinary Skills curriculum that is further enhanced in dedicated laboratories. The selected candidate would be a facilitator in the Essential Veterinary Skills program – specifically supporting the functions of the communications and professionalism program. The successful candidate will be responsible for partnering with faculty to appropriately develop and deliver communications labs throughout the RUSVM curriculum. The candidate will also partner with the professionalism program coordinator and faculty liaisons to provide support for student concerns. The candidate will report to the Director of Essential Veterinary Skills program.

Responsibilities

  • Communications (Approximately 20 hours per week)
  • Provide constructive feedback to students on specific scenarios to enhance the verbal and non-verbal communications skills of students
  • Giving detailed, descriptive feedback to students
  • Training colleagues and participating in the Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE)
  • Undertake additional activities as requested by head of department
  • Professionalism Program (Approximately 5 hours per week)
  • Support EVS program coordinator and Professionalism program coordinator with communications between course coordinators and students with potential professionalism events including.
  • Investigation of absences and issues raised by students or colleagues
  • Providing written updates to students with professionalism events
  • Meeting with students in collaboration with professionalism program coordinator.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Complies with all policies and standards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in education or communication is highly desired Required
  • Master's Degree in education or communication is highly desired Preferred
  • 1+ year Candidate must have attended specific training in communications.
  • Knowledge and interests in veterinary medicine strongly desired.
