Job Description

Adtalem is a data driven organization. The Data Engineering team builds data solutions that powers strategic and tactical business decisions and supports the Analytics and Artificial Intelligence operations. By implementing data platform, data pipelines and data governance policies this team provides the basis for decision-making in Adtalem.

Adtalem is looking for an experienced and hands-on Senior Manager, Data Governance to Develop, implement and enforce Adtalem's Data Governance strategy using best-in-class approaches that harness appropriate technologies, methodologies, and emerging standards. This person will partner closely with internal business and technology leaders to establish data quality policies and standards, develop controls and promote a culture of compliance, to ensure business critical data is always complete, accurate, governed, and accessible.

Responsibilities

  • Develop our Master Data Management (MDM) strategy, ensuring quality of critical data elements & identifying opportunities to increase business value through data. Lead coordination of data quality remediation plans where data fails to meet established data governance standards.
  • Coordinate with members of the business and data community to capture requirement, design and run time metadata including data catalogs, data lineage, and operational metadata to improve data literacy.
  • Develop data policies and classification taxonomy for data access, data compliance and data retention. Develop data democratization layer for self-served reporting.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of the data ecosystem to ensure data policy is being appropriately applied.
  • Define roles/responsibilities related to data governance and ensure clear accountability of a data stewardship program. Work with leadership, cross-functional operations teams, and student-facing resources at all levels of the organization.
  • Oversee the hiring, training, and development of team members.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Travel Requirements Up to 5%.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or other related technical field Required
  • Master's Degree Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or other related technical field Preferred
  • Eight (8) plus years Multiple data domain areas such as Data Architecture, Data Engineering, MDM, Data Quality, Metadata Management, Data Privacy and Security etc Required and
  • Three (3) plus years Direct leadership experience building and managing a high performing team Required
  • A thorough understanding of data governance principles, frameworks and methodologies, and experience applying them in all stages of the data lifecycle.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to recognize and comprehend complex data governance issues, policies, regulatory requirements and industry information affecting the business environment.
  • Hands-on experience working with database systems as a data engineer or data scientist.
  • Experience working with GCP, AWS or Azure cloud data platform.
  • Have proven experience defining a roadmap and managing incremental execution through successful launches.
  • Excellent oral/written communication and presentation skills which bring clarity and precision to help management understand and visualize complex material to support organizational decision-making.
  • Experience in objectively evaluating current processes for opportunities to optimize inter departmental communication, collaboration, and end-to-end process performance
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $93,596.21 and $169,021.85. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
