Job description
The mission of Ross Preparatory School is to provide an enriched US curriculum for children of faculty, staff and students of RUSVM along with members of the St. Kitts and Nevis Community. The curriculum is taught by highly trained and qualified teachers who, in partnership with parents and the community, motivate students to achieve academic success, develop a lifelong love of learning and become a responsible global citizen. The Prep school is located on the RUSVM campus and follows a calendar that is very similar to the vet school.
Teachers are responsible for following and enriching the Prep School’s specific curriculum. In recognition of the high transient rate of students, it is essential that the adopted course-of-study be followed. In utilizing the set curriculum, teachers may strengthen their presentation with supplemental knowledge, creativity and varied instructional techniques and are held accountable for teaching to the specific stated standards in each area.
The Prep School Teacher provides a challenging, student-centered learning environment grounded in the US Common Core and other relevant standards. The teacher fosters curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking through multi-modal learning experiences within a supportive and inclusive school community that values students, teachers, and parents alike.
Core Responsibilities
Design and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction that promotes academic growth, curiosity, and confidence.
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners, using a variety of teaching and learning strategies.
Assess student progress regularly through formative and summative assessments and adjust instruction to support measurable student success.
Create a classroom environment that encourages respect, inclusivity, and positive behavior both in and out of class.
Support students’ development across all domains—academic, social, emotional, and personal—meeting them where they are.
Collaborate with colleagues to co-plan and co-deliver lessons, ensuring consistency and excellence across the school.
Actively participate in the school’s professional learning community, contributing to a culture that is dynamic, innovative, and supportive.
Integrate technology effectively to enhance teaching, communication, and student engagement.
Communicate regularly and effectively with parents and guardians to ensure shared understanding of student progress and school expectations.
Contribute to the life of the school community beyond the classroom through clubs, events, and community initiatives.
Maintain confidentiality for all members of the school community, including students and families.
Complete other duties as assigned by school leadership.
General Requirements
Hardworking, enthusiastic, and goal-oriented professional with a strong commitment to student learning and growth.
Demonstrates flexibility, creativity, and a caring approach to teaching students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
Uses effective classroom management strategies to maintain a positive, safe, and respectful environment.
Works collaboratively as part of a team to achieve school-wide goals and uphold the mission and values of the Prep School.
Demonstrates professional integrity, reliability, and strong communication skills.
Maintains a positive attitude, sense of humor, and willingness to share ideas and talents.
Encourages community service and fosters connections within and beyond the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine community.
Afterschool & Co-Curricular Responsibilities
Supervise and engage students during afterschool or extracurricular activities, fostering positive social interaction and teamwork.
Support daily routines, including snack and meal times, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.
Assist in maintaining organization and cleanliness of classroom and shared spaces.
Build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, representing the school with professionalism and care.
You are qualified if you have:
Knowledge of current instructional methods, educational pedagogy, and strategies for differentiating instruction based on diverse learning styles and abilities.
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education or a related discipline, with appropriate teaching qualifications (or equivalent experience).
A valid U.S. teaching certificate or a minimum of two years of successful teaching experience in a school setting.
An energetic, creative, and student-centered approach that inspires curiosity and engagement in young learners.
The ability to integrate multiple areas of the curriculum to create meaningful, interdisciplinary learning experiences.
Experience adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of individual learners and support inclusive practices.
