Company Description

Medical Education Readiness Program (MERP) is actively seeking an experienced full time faculty for the position of Assistant Professor of Medical Physiology and Biophysics.

The Physiology faculty teaches the Medical Physiology and Biophysics course including topics such as cell, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal and renal physiology to aspiring medical students to the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) and Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM). The course is taught three times a year in an online delivery. A successful candidate will have had significant experience teaching Medical Physiology. An online curriculum delivery experience is an asset.

Students receive instruction in four disciplines including Medical Anatomy/Histology, Medical Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, Medical Microbiology/Immunology, and Medical Physiology/Biophysics. 


Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Prepare course material (lecture notes and lectures) 
  • Deliver effective lectures and conduct interactive workshops 
  • Develop new instructional materials and teaching techniques with participation in on-going reviews and revision of curriculum planning 
  • Develop clinically relevant USMLE and NBME-style questions for practice and assessments. Prepare, administer and evaluate examinations to assess the development of student competence. 
  • Prepare instructional plans and career analyses to reflect current changes in the field  
  • Advise individuals or groups of students in academic matters and exercise professional judgment in referring students to appropriate personnel 
  • Actively participate in relevant professional activities in order to improve teaching and subject matter competence  
  • Serve on faculty committees as appointed or elected, and confer with advisory groups in order to modify course content  
  • Participate in other activities as assigned by the Executive Director of MERP and other academic leaders. 
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards

Qualifications

  • M.D. and/or Ph.D. in Physiology, Biophysics or related fields 
  • Enthusiastic instructor with previous teaching experience at a North American or United Kingdom medical school. 
  • Excellent communication skills in English 
  • Flexibility and ability to work well on a team 
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, techniques, materials and equipment used in postsecondary teaching/medical education preferred 
  • Educational technology skills, including use of e-learning management systems, audience response systems, online examinations, video-conferencing, desirable

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $72,832.91 and $119227.59. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
