Join Our Faculty: Basic Medical Sciences/MedOrigin - Physiology Educator – AUC School of Medicine, Sint Maarten

Are you passionate about teaching and mentoring future physicians? The American University of the Caribbean (AUC) School of Medicine is seeking a full-time Human Physiology Faculty Member to join our Medical Sciences Campus in Sint Maarten. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact through innovative teaching, student support, and curriculum development.

This position will serve a dual role of supporting delivery of the MedOrigin course, a 10-credit course designed to provide incoming medical students with curated foundational knowledge, practical skills, and strategies necessary for success in medical school prior to the start of their first semester, and Physiology in the standard MD Program curriculum, particularly with remediation support as needed.

What You’ll Do

As a key member of our faculty, you’ll:

  • Deliver engaging instruction in Human Physiology, emphasizing the physiological basis of disease and current diagnostic approaches.
  • Prepare course materials and integrate student and peer feedback to enhance learning.
  • Lead interactive lectures, small group sessions, and case-based learning experiences.
  • Provide individualized remediation support for students at risk of not meeting academic performance standards.
  • Collaborate with the Academy for Teaching and Learning to align remediation with curricular objectives and assessments.
  • Advise students on academic matters and refer them to appropriate support services.
  • Write and review NBME-style questions for practice and assessments.
  • Prepare and evaluate examinations to assess student progress.
  • Serve as a positive role model, supporting students’ professional and social development.
  • Participate in curriculum planning, development, and continuous improvement.
  • Engage in professional development to stay current in your field.
  • Serve on faculty committees and contribute to university initiatives.
  • Take on academic activities that promote student success as assigned by the Chair or Dean.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all university policies and standards.

    Qualifications

    What You Bring

    • PhD, MD, or equivalent with a specialization in Physiology (required)
    • 1–3 years of teaching experience in a medical school setting (required)
    • Demonstrated or promising teaching skills, especially in physiology and related areas
    • Familiarity with USMLE content and exam preparation (preferred)
    • A strong interest in medical education and a commitment to continuous growth
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • A flexible, team-oriented mindset and a passion for student success
    • Preference given to candidates with proven teaching experience in departmental subject areas
    • Willingness and ability to relocate to Sint Maarten and contribute to our academic community
