College of Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Studies
The College of Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Studies is a new unit within Walden, bringing together undergraduate general education and all non-licensure B.S. programs. These include:
- B.S. Communication
- B.S. Psychology
- B.S. Business Administration
- B.S. Criminal Justice
- B.S. Human Services
- B.S. Public Health, Health Studies, and Health Care Management
- B.S. in Early Childhood Studies

Opportunity at a Glance
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Walden University seeks a dynamic, innovative faculty member for this contributing (part-time) position in the B.S. in Human Services. All courses are asynchronous. Key responsibilities of this position include teaching courses in the following content areas: Understanding Ability in Disability, Measuring Effectiveness of Human Services Delivery, Cultural Humility & Diversity, Mental Health Crisis Response, Advocacy in a Global Community, and Person-Centered Case Management.
Contributing Faculty members manage their own time to fulfill their responsibilities. We value the experience you bring with you and want to make sure your voice is heard as policies and initiatives take shape and find implementation.
- Provide Course instruction as assigned
- Engage in classrooms at least 4 days a week
- Respond to student questions within 48 hours
- Facilitate and engage in discussion boards
- Assess student work and provide substantive feedback in a timely fashion
- Be available to students via video chat or phone as needed
- Occasional additional duties may include course content development
- Service on university and school committees and school initiatives as needed
- Support administrative needs within the college
- Course maintenance as needed
- Establish an accessible and supportive virtual classroom environment
- Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors, sharing experiences and observations
- Training: All new faculty members receive specific training from Walden University in the techniques of online teaching, the use of Learning Management Systems, specifics of the policies, procedures, and degree programs in which they are going to teach, socialization into the Walden University culture; and assessment of academic integrity of student work (including use of Turnitin or SafeAssign) and acceptable use of AI. Teaching assignments are contingent upon successful completion of required training. During the first term of teaching, faculty members will be assigned a faculty peer mentor to provide mentorship and establish collegiality.
- Course Teaching: Faculty Members are assigned a course, which is taught using the eCollege platform, and are responsible for interacting with students within this platform. Discussion Boards for classrooms are open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Although postings to the classroom may be done at any time of day, they must be completed in a timely manner in accordance with the Faculty Handbook or other criteria established by Walden University. Per the faculty handbook, responses to student questions must be posted within 48 hours. Faculty Members are required to verify the accuracy of student postings and submissions and to provide feedback and grades to students through Canva.
- Availability: Walden expects faculty to be reasonably accessible to students. Faculty members are expected to be available to students outside the course discussion board and in addition to providing substantive feedback on assignments and postings. Faculty members will publish their availability to students through course syllabi, instructor information in the classroom, and/or other appropriate documents. The university suggests regular and predictable availability, such as online office hours or regular online chats.
Work Environment
Work is performed remotely (at home/office). Work involves operating personal computer equipment. Faculty members must have a personal computer with virus protection and Internet access. Walden University provides a Walden e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, university and college listservs, and other faculty communications tools.
The recommended computer setup includes Internet access, preferably broadband or DSL; Windows 10 or macOS with virtualization software (e.g., Parallels with Windows OS); minimum of 2 GB of RAM; a hard drive of at least 40 GB; DVD drive, speakers, and headphone connected to the computer; webcam with microphone or a built-in webcam and computer with audio capabilities.
Software Requirements include current Web browser (ideally Chrome to best support Brightspace); Microsoft Office suite; Adobe Reader; Adobe Flash Player; Apple QuickTime; Windows Media Player; antivirus software (e.g., McAfee or Norton) installed, running, and kept current by promptly installing the upgrades and patches made available by the software manufacturer. Software versions are subject to change.
- Residencies: Faculty Members may be required to attend Residencies held domestically or internationally, (Part-time faculty may, but are not required to attend), where they will teach intensives and colloquia, and facilitate school and university-wide discussions.
- Performs other duties as assigned

Qualified candidates will possess
This post is for Contributing Faculty serving the College of Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Studies. We are looking for faculty in the following disciplines: Human Services.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering empowerment and providing support for adult learners.
- Experience with and dedication to serving a diverse population of adults or adult learners who manage multiple responsibilities while pursuing education.
- Experience working collaboratively with faculty, colleagues, and/or staff to effectively support a positive student or client experience.
- Completion of a Master’s degree in a human services or related field and/or doctoral degrees and experience in the field and/or interdisciplinary fields within academia.
- Experience with building and fostering communities in online environments.
- Documented contribution to research, thought leadership, and/or scholarship is valued in applicants, and participation in community organizations, organizational leadership, and social change initiatives. However, we prefer teaching experience and field-related experience over publication records.
- Work experience in human services.
In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected compensation rate for this position is as follows:
- Graduate Course Instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per Quarter or Semester, depending on type of course taught and length of course
- Undergraduate Course Instruction: $700 - $2,200 per quarter, depending on type of course taught and length of course
Actual pay may be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as type of course taught; experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility. Walden also offers other opportunities for its contributing faculty members, such as dissertation/doctoral study committee chair positions, research reviewing, and dissertation and doctoral study mentoring.
