Job Description

The Business Intelligence Manager with our Analytics Center of Excellence (ACE) is a working leader that will have day-to-day duties along with leading a team. The manager is responsible for the direct oversight, coaching and development of report developers responsible for multiple functions. The manager will serve dual functions of serving as a solutions manager and leading a team of reports developers.  The manager will assist with business development and relationship building with partners and conduct observations as needed to ensure the reporting team is able to meet all reporting deadlines. To be successful, the manager  will need to have strong business, data and systems process knowledge used in higher education and partner with business leaders to lead discussions to identify opportunities, gather requirements and deliver results and explain complex subjects in easy to understand conclusions for a wide audience around data/reporting projects. Along with the business skills, the manager will also need strong technical skills using SQL & Power BI to solution analytic problems that the team may run into. Design, develop and implement reports/dashboards for executive leaders within all institutions.

  • Leads day to day operations of the team to ensure efficient delivery of reports to colleagues in accordance with service level agreements; monitors schedules to provide effective coverage.
  • Conducts observations, colleague performance and professional development sessions and oversees departmental meetings; holds colleagues accountable to individual and team goals
  • Provides leadership with tracking, reporting and assessment of team reports and projec
  • Liaison to assigned function and/or institutions for secondary review on completed observations and general questions.
  • Lead calibration sessions for assigned institutions.
  • Provide detailed feedback to functional and/or institutional leaders; coordinate efforts to meet institutional service levels.
  • Complete statistical analysis, report and track observation trends, training opportunities and compliance concerns in assigned systems; identify and recommend process efficiencies based on trend analysis.
  • Demonstrate expertise and remain up to date on all institution and functional reporting requirements.
  • Review current reporting procedures and service levels to develop continuous improvement recommendations.
  • May assist leader with designing and presenting any special reports and projects
  • Assist with the analysis and estimation BI projects.
  • Assist with interviewing, hiring and training new reports analysts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Five (5) plus years of business intelligence development for reporting/dashboards.
  • Five (5) plus years of business experience preferred in higher education with operational knowledge of student finance, admissions and student services. 
  • Strong experience with Programming and Enterprise systems (Power BI, Cognos, Crystal, etc.) reporting skills, SQL or used reports development tools. 
  • Strong presentation skills and prior experience speaking in front of senior leadership.
  • Prior leadership experience and/or experience training and mentoring colleagues.
  • Experience with developing reporting using data warehouses, such as a cloud based tool like Snowflake.
  • Strong experience with Programming and Enterprise systems (Power BI, Cognos, Crystal, etc.) reporting skills, SQL or used reports development tools.
  • Exceptional leadership, critical thinking, organization and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization and work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions without supervision or direction
  • Strong persistence, ability to perform repetitive tasks.
  • Proven ability to set priorities and deadlines and ensure projects are completed.
  • Self-motivated and willing to take ownership of and quickly resolve complex issues
  • Good understanding of systems and business processes across multiple areas in higher education including Admissions, Student Finance, Academic Advising and/or Registrar Services.
  • Capacity to develop skills to interpret and analyze data to drive business decisions
  • Good skills with MS Office (Access, PowerPoint, Word, Visio) is a plus
  • Agility to learn new systems and pilot new technologies is a plus
  • Proven ability to meet/exceed expectations on most recent performance evaluation

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $70,696.34 and $124,230.14. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
