Job Description

Opportunity at a Glance
Walden University is looking to add a VP, Growth and Insights to Walden University's executive management team, reporting directly to the President. This new leader will partner with the Walden enrollment, advising and product management teams – as well as with Adtalem's centralized marketing, customer experience, and workforce solutions teams to; 1) track key performance indicators and develop data-driven insights that can drive short and long-term growth, 2) lead high impact, cross-functional growth efforts, and 3) collaboratively lead the annual growth strategy and develop strategic communications. In this role, the VP will play a leading role in supporting Walden and its executive team in growing the institution and winning market share. The VP will partner with the team to help drive revenue, enrollment growth, market share, persistence, and gross margin improvements. In addition, the VP will track and drive insights from leading indicators such as lead mix and volume, website performance, admissions conversion rates, cohort retention rates, student satisfaction and program profitability.

Walden University seeks an individual that can think strategically while driving results. They will have strong analytical capabilities and the ability to drive insights – and then drive action from those insights. The VP will need to be a strong and collaborative leader that can work effectively in a matrixed organization while ensuring accountability. This individual will have a strong understanding of digital education and/or a comparable industry. A bias towards action and speed of execution will be beneficial as it is imperative for the University to improve its competitiveness and drive growth.

Responsibilities

  • The VP will have a broad set of responsibilities, including:
  • Analytics and data-driven insights:
  • Refine and (where needed) develop comprehensive set of dashboards to track performance against PY and targets
  • Train/coach team on how to use data and dashboards to derive insights and drive improvement.
  • Lead and conduct ad-hoc analysis to support enrollment, retention and pricing optimization.
  • Lead high-impact growth initiatives:
  • Marketing, Enrollment and Persistence -
  • Partner with VP, Enrollment to identify and drive high-impact initiatives.
  • Partner with centralized marketing team to assess end-to-end enrollment performance – from lead generation, brand building, website optimization through to conversion rates.
  • Partners with VP, Product team to determine gaps in Institution offerings and address through product development, student experience, and/or technology.
  • Partner with VP, student services to develop innovative retention strategies and lead high impact initiatives.
  • Partner with the centralized customer care and technology organization to set priorities, track delivery, and support new student service innovations.
  • Partner with centralized Workforce Solutions team to drive our B2B strategy, to monitor progress and drive high-impact initiatives.
  • Process Improvement -
  • Build a culture of continual process improvement that provides ongoing improvements to the prospective student and student experience. Identify, implement, and monitor improvements for processes and policies to assist team members in complying with regulatory requirements and delivering excellent customer service on an efficient and timely basis.
  • Growth strategy and communications
  • Partner with Walden executive team to develop annual growth strategy and goals in coordination with the Adtalem enterprise strategy, secondary axis, and Institutional leaders. Partner with the University President to ensure strategic priorities are established and developed to ensure long term growth and program viability.
  • In partnership with VP, of product management, evaluate and optimize existing programs, going after ways to address those opportunities to generate higher student outcomes and program returns.
  • In partnership with VP, of product management, support the go-to-market execution of new and evolving programs for the Institution including planning for how to operationalize the program, launch planning with Marketing, coordination of program content development with CCO.
  • Help drive accountability within Walden and across the centralized teams for effective delivery of revenue and profitability.
  • Support executive team to develop written communications and updates for internal and external audiences
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Complies with all policies and standards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required and Master's Degree MBA Preferred
  • 15+ years overall experience Required 
  • 12+ years experience as a P&L leader or operational leader, with broad management abilities and proven leadership Required 
  • 5+ years of experience and a demonstrated track record of successfully contributing to growth businesses with tremendous drive, intellect, and emotional intelligence Required 
  • A thoughtful leader who is highly collaborative and can successfully navigate a matrixed, complex organization. Will be self-aware, open minded, transparent and one who leads by example.
  • A self-motivated individual, that is metrics-driven, and brings disciplined approach to strategy execution. Results-driven, one will bring outstanding strategic capabilities and a strong business acumen.
  • A strong executive presence and be comfortable and credible interfacing within the “c-suite”.
  • A true “change agent,” able to lead diverse groups in implementing new programs and ideas. One will bring the proven ability to work cross-functionally and lead through influence.
  • An enthusiastic and creative leader with demonstrated desire for continuous learning and improvement.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Highly motivated, self-directed and will be passionate about making a measurable difference for the University and its students.
  • GROWTH: Proven experience as a Senior Executive within growth-oriented environments, architecting, building, managing, and growing revenue, sustaining double-digit annual growth.
  • SCOPE: Broad experience leading, maximizing performance, and driving growth across new solution development, alliances/partnerships, sales, customer (student) experience, customer (student admissions) services/retention, and marketing.
  • PRODUCT: Substantive experience in competitive market analysis and product/solution development with demonstrated success identifying, building, launching, and scaling new offerings that extend customer relationships, expand market presence, and drive commercial success.
  • DOMAIN: Demonstrated results building capacity and growth in a b2b and direct to customer sales business. Experience working in education and/or healthcare a distinct plus. Direct experience with hospitals/health systems/academic medical centers additive.
  • MANAGEMENT: Demonstrated experience and success working in a highly matrixed organization, and the ability to collaborate and informally influence/develop relationships. Proven track record leading with a “Talent First” mindset including being a role model for attracting high performing talent, developing, and coaching direct and indirect reports.

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $159328.72 and $288104.20. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
