Opportunity at a Glance


The Senior Analyst of Corporate Development plays a key role in supporting Adtalem Global Education's executive team in the development and execution of corporate development initiatives, such as mergers and acquisitions (M&A), divestitures, investments and strategic partnerships. This professional will be involved in a variety of high-impact, high-profile corporate development projects to deliver Adtalem's growth aspirations and will have a material impact on the organization's strategic direction. While principally focused on corporate development activities, the role will also have exposure to enterprise strategy initiatives in service of the organization's broader growth ambitions. This individual will report to the Senior Director, Strategy & Corporate Development and join a team comprised of individuals with experience in consulting, investment banking, corporate development, and private equity work.

Responsibilities

  • Corporate Development:
    • Actively manage corporate development pipeline based on both inbound (reactive) and outbound (proactive) activity

    • Identify potential M&A targets through idea generation, industry research and screening of inbounds

    • Serve as thought partner in developing investment theses for inorganic growth opportunities through rigorous financial and strategic analysis

    • Provide valuation recommendations based on financial returns analysis (e.g., DCF, IRR, ROIC) and/or prevailing market multiples (e.g., EBITDA, ARR)

    • Develop and maintain financial models supporting corporate development and ad hoc strategic initiatives

    • Prepare presentations and recommendations for senior leadership, Board meetings and/or in support of investment committee meetings

    • Engage in analyses around whether to buy/build/partner in pursuit of a given strategic objective

    • Synthesize market research and competitive intelligence analyses to develop and monitor a comprehensive market map for corporate development purposes

    • Assist day-to-day execution of deal processes

    • Support all due diligence work streams, including active management of data requests

    • Coordinate with cross-functional internal stakeholders, ensuring alignment across enterprise

    • Provide input for definitive deal documents (e.g., IOI, LOI, purchase agreement)

    • Prepare documents utilized to deliver regular updates to leadership teams regarding deal progress, key issues/risks and next steps

    • Assist with key post deal/partnership activity

    • Develop and socialize key deal summaries and integration/separation considerations

    • Liaise with internal stakeholders with respect to interpreting transaction terms

    • Actively participate in integration planning, ensuring proper knowledge transfer from deal/partnership team to key internal stakeholders

    • Monitor financial performance of acquired assets and new partnerships, including key performance indicators and a qualitative assessment of strategic factors

    • Assist with enterprise strategy initiatives, including:

      • Development and execution of competitive intelligence capability

      • Portfolio strategy - conduct internal and external analysis, synthesize business vertical inputs, develop recommendations for new opportunities 

      • Execution of special projects and “one-off” strategic initiatives


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Master's Degree Preferred or MBA Preferred
  • 1-3 years of experience in a top-tier M&A consulting firm, investment bank, private equity or within an equivalent corporate development group
  • Direct experience with executing corporate development initiatives (e.g., acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, partnerships)
  • Experience conducting hands-on analysis of target companies, including developing detailed financial models from scratch
  • Superior quantitative and qualitative analytical skills combined with outstanding project management abilities, ability to apply good judgment and sense as appropriate
  • Strong intuition / first principles thinking around business performance, business drivers and overall competitive landscape
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to synthesize and clearly articulate information and complex ideas
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated success as collaborative team player; capable of working with others and autonomously with modest direction
  • Possess a strong drive and determination to get things done
  • Thrive on achievement and helping others achieve their goals
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and cross-functional environment, where conflicting objectives need to be prioritized and achieved
  • Advanced Excel, PowerPoint and secondary research skills required; working knowledge of Capital IQ, PitchBook and other research platforms preferred

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $68,637.22 and $124,230.14. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
