In our U.S. locations, we operate on a hybrid work model with three in-office days and two remote days per week. Starting Q1 2025, we will transition to a four-day in-office schedule, Monday–Thursday. Job Description

Opportunity at a Glance

The Office of External Affairs will oversee and drive change in the areas of Community Engagement, Community Academic affairs, and the Global Health Program. The emphasis will be on developing responsible partnerships with communities where RUSM students live, study, and serve, while training students to address health inequities in a diverse environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in development and implementation of local and regional community engagement to establish strong networks, fostering an inclusive environment between the community and RUSM students, and
  • Support engagement of the ADEA with external stakeholders, e.g., NGO’s, accreditors, political figures, healthcare leaders and their organization, and local service and philanthropic organizations.
  • Liaise and collaborate with ATGE Director of sustainability and External Government Relations and assist in implementing the OEA strategic plan
  • Work closely with other RUSM departments in raising awareness and collaborating on engagement activities
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a plan for strategic engagement with the public and private sector organizations with which the OEA seeks partnerships
  • Assist in identification of and maintenance of strong relationships with the health care entities, to achieve the dual objective of providing support to health care entities and providing appropriate, early clinical experiences to RUSM students.
  • Support plans for strategic engagement with the higher education sector that includes objectives for engagement and desired outcomes.
  • Support building of strategic relationships with regional partners.
  • Liaise with the Clinical Foundations and student affairs to assist in improving and optimizing voluntary student experiences
  • Support development of community initiatives and programs aligned with local healthcare needs and communicate such events to the internal and external Community. E.g., Recognition of Heath awareness days/months
  • Responsible for sharing communication of activities from the Office of External Affairs
  • Liaise with Communication team to support internal and external communication
  • Engage in teaching in the Community Medicine and Global Program
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Complies with all policies and standards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in public health or related field Required
  • Master's Degree, MBA or MPM would be an asset Preferred
  • 3+ years work experience in supporting community programming and delivery in a related area. Required
  • Experience working with governmental agencies
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations
  • Experience in community engagement and health promotion would be an asset
  • The ability to work in a diverse Community of students faculty and patients
  • Knowledge in the area of community engagement, health promotion and public health
  • Ability to succeed in a collaborative work setting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A record of ability to network with governmental and non-governmental organizations, and ability to develop new partnerships
  • A self-starter who takes and is a creative and Innovative thinker
  • Sound knowledge of local Community and Regional Affairs
  • Familiarity with the healthcare system in the Barbados and the region
  • Demonstrate creativity and innovation in solving problems
  • The role may require local and international travel periodically for 2-to-4-week periods.
