Job Description

Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) invites recent RUSM graduates only to apply for the Teaching Fellow for the Office of External Affairs at the RUSM academic center facilities in the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Center, which is centrally located in the vibrant capital city of Bridgetown.
 
The term for this position will run from May 2025 through April 2026. You must be recent RUSM graduate in order to apply for a Teaching Fellow role. 
 
This position will support programs within the Office of the Associate Dean of External Affairs (ADEA) in making RUSM an indispensable partner to the Barbados government, health care system, higher education sector, and aligned regional and community partners.
 
The office of External affairs oversees, and drives change in the areas of Community Engagement and Relations, Community Academic affairs, and the Community and Global Health Program.


The emphasis is on developing responsible partnerships with communities where RUSM students live, study, and serve, in a manner that is mutually beneficial to both parties. Programs provide students with a learning opportunity in community health and social determinants of health in a diverse environment.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with development of community engagement initiatives and in delivering community programs aligned with local healthcare needs
  • Assist with organization of the Community Engagement Fair at the start of every semester
  • Coordinate and assist in development of activities in Recognition of Heath awareness days/months and other related events within the RUSM community and the external Community. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students in developing the above activities
  • Assist in guidance to RUSM students in development of community-based initiatives with a focus on addressing health inequity and social determinants of health
  • Assist in development of STEM Program in collaboration with OEA and designated faculty
  • Help in preparation of proposals and reports related to community engagement and related projects and activities
  • Represent RUSM in a manner that promotes relationship building with community entities
  • Community and Global Health program and Collaborations
  • Be an integral team member in supporting the activities within the community and global health program
  • Supervise clinical experiences, within the community and global health program
  • Engage in field work and research within programs administered by the OEA with an emphasis on community-based research in the Community and Global health program, in collaboration with team members.
  • Field work and supervision of clinical experiences may require travel within the region and internationally
  • Provide support for collaborative programs with the higher education sector, as part of partnership building, focusing on the objectives of engagement and desired outcomes
  • Liaise and interact with student interest groups for volunteer recruitment; create an alliance with Ross SGA
  • Lead or assist with Basic Life Support training for second-semester students
  • Create promotional and/or educational material for engagement events
  • Perform any other related duties as requested by the Associate Dean of External Affairs
  • Complies with all policies and standards

Qualifications

  • Must be a recent graduate of Ross University School of Medicine
  • A degree in public health or related fields (e.g., MPH) would be an asset
  • The ability to work in a diverse Community of students, faculty, and patients
  • Ability to succeed in a collaborative work setting and be a team player
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and/or experience in community and public health programming would be an asset
