We are a high-performing team that meets in person to learn and collaborate as needed. This role is considered hybrid, which means you’ll be assigned to our Maryland office and given the flexibility to work remotely. We are looking for someone to be on-site 2-3 days a week.

Job Description

The Instructional Technologist (IST) holds two key areas of responsibility in building and maintaining online courses. The IST is a subject matter expert in creating online courses and competencies from content provided by learning experience designers, recommending technology options both inside and outside the Learning Management System to support the effective delivery of this content, as well as the objectives of the learning experience design. The IST also independently implements solutions to correct minor technical issues in courses, and coordinates with faculty and learning experience designers to implement broader continuous product improvement changes. This position resides in the Product Development and Classroom Design (PDCD) group and works with a number of teams across PDCD and partner institutions to ensure that the finished product delivered to faculty and students meets quality, brand, and experience expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains knowledge of contemporary product development technologies, including authoring tools, production software, learning content management systems, learning management systems, digital asset management systems, IT systems integrations, and other third party technical integrations (e.g., eBook publishers, online homework systems, simulation platforms, etc.).
  • Builds digital courses for multiple delivery contexts (including course-based, competency-based, self-paced, micro-learning, and other such contexts) to align with partner institution strategies; possesses proven expertise in at least one of the delivery context areas.
  • Follows standard templates to create and maintain professional quality in all products; uses LMS and programming expertise to implement approved deviations from or additions to the standard template.
  • Collaborates with IT professionals to implement integrated solutions (e.g., LTI and API connections).
  • Triages routine continuous product improvement requests and implements solutions according to established practices.
  • Fields continuous product improvement requests and implements solutions to technical issues with minimal support.
  • Recommends solutions to faculty and PDCD colleagues where content changes are involved – and then implements those solutions with minimal support.
  • Utilizes course and competency build practices to ensure effective and efficient processes for course builds.
  • Builds the learner experience to ensure effective integration of text, graphics, animations, videos, and interactions for these offerings.
  • Conducts functional QA of all course builds to ensures final deliverables meet or exceed established accuracy, consistency, and quality standards.
  • Collaborates with PDCD and academic stakeholders for final course build approvals, as well as approvals of major course maintenance activities, iterating as needed based on feedback from faculty (and students, if appropriate).
  • Actively participates on project teams in assisting with planning, scheduling, and problem solving.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time.
  • Travel to summits and development meetings with partners may be required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree BA or BS required in instructional technology, instructional design, graphic design, information technology, computer science, or a related area Required.
  • 3 Minimum 3 - 5 years relevant technology experience
  • Experience in support of online courses is highly desired
  • Knowledge of common learning management systems, including Canvas and D2L.
  • Advanced computer application skills.
  • Expertise with web design and development tools (i.e., Dreamweaver, PhotoShop, Drupal, etc.).
  • Analytic skills, excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are required.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and manage priorities.
  • Ability to work independently in an agile, fast-paced matrix organization.
  • Ability to learn and implement new technologies and adapt processes for continuous improvement.

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $51962.03 and $93918.96. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
