Job Description

Opportunity at a Glance

The MPH program at Chamberlain University is designed to challenge and change how students think about population groups' health. The program also prepares students to lead projects and teams implementing solutions for various public health programs and policies. The curriculum allows students to focus on specific areas of public health as they work with public health professionals. Options for study include accelerated, full-time, and part-time options or flexible online learning available 24/7 for new and existing healthcare professionals.

The Faculty are responsible for teaching courses for Chamberlain University's Masters of Public Health Program (MPH). This position involves teaching, research, and service responsibilities in biostatistics and epidemiology within the Master of Public Health (MPH) program. The Faculty will contribute to developing and delivering courses, mentor students, engage in scholarly research, and participate in service activities. The Faculty is expected to meet faculty outcomes each year as indicated in an annual Individual Performance Plan.

The department is interested in candidates with a strong research background in epidemiology, biostatics, and environmental and occupational health, including but not limited to environmental or occupational epidemiology, environmental toxicology, exposure science, intervention science, climate change and health, and environmental health disparities. 

Rank is commensurate with experience and credentials. The salary is negotiable. The preferred applicant will have an earned DrPH or Ph.D. in a related public health discipline, e.g., epidemiology or biostatistics, or a related field. Preference will be given to applicants with an experience in online teaching, scholarly record, including peer-reviewed publications and national presentations, and a successful record of developing course content and teaching public/global health and additional areas of expertise at the post-professional level.

Responsibilities

Evidence-Based Teaching/ Learning and Master Instruction

  • Takes responsibility for program outcomes by implementing the College’s philosophy, curriculum, and course objectives through classroom, online, and service to the College, community, health system, and profession.
  • Preparing for classes; grading papers, tests, and other assignments; evaluating instructional materials; preparing instructional syllabi; utilizing the Learning Management System; providing prompt feedback; referring students to support services; recording and reporting grades and attendance promptly; participating in learning assessment; etc.
  • Provide students with office hours virtually 2 hours weekly in Microsoft Office Teams.
  • Provide Video recording lectures on critical concepts in Weeks 1-8 in the Learning Management Software. 
  • Demonstrate interest in working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate evidence of the ability to teach public health coursework, mainly using student-focused or student-centered approaches.

  • Serves as a positive professional role model for students, assisting in their professional/social development 
  • Incorporates practice of role models/ mentors selected from other faculty and staff in customer service, collaboration, communication, excellence, and general professionalism.

  • Participate in professional activities outside of the College 

Professional Service 

  • Contributes to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the programs and philosophy of the college. 
  • Contributes to developing and evaluating student admissions, progression, retention, and graduation policies within the College.
  • Provides opportunities for student and graduate evaluation of curriculum, teaching, and program effectiveness.
  • A faculty member at the rank of Instructor begins to assume leadership within the College by accepting or initiating, as part of the workload, responsibility for activities such as:
    • Chairing or serving on College Committees  
    • Chairing and serving on work groups that contribute to preparation for accreditation visits
    • Serving as course coordinator or Subject Matter Expert (SME)
    • Documenting actions taken in faculty and committee meetings as appropriate 

Public Health Practice Expertise  

  • Demonstrates scholarship through Scholarship of Teaching, Discovery, Application, or Integration congruent with expectations of assigned rank 
  • Participate in research excellence as demonstrated via peer-reviewed publications in public health or interdisciplinary journals or at conferences with students. 
  • Demonstrates a practice of scholarly teaching characterized by keeping course materials and content current, applying evidence-based teaching principles, participating in education, and reflecting on one’s teaching. 

Lifelong Learning

  • Develops leadership skills through formal coursework or continuing education 

Other Requirements

  • Perform other duties as assigned 
  • Attend events during the week from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. CST 
  • Completes other duties as assigned 
  • Availability to serve as a Faculty Advisor to a  Student-Run Organization 

Qualifications

  • PhD or Doctorate Degree and Master's Degree in Public Health Required
  • Minimum of 5 years of full-time teaching experience required
  • Minimum of 2 years of online teaching experience required
  • Experientially prepared to teach assigned courses
  • Excellent communication skills along with a high level of initiative and prudent judgment
  • Must meet all compliance requirements as specified in the Faculty Handbook

Scholarship Requirements: Demonstrates scholarship congruent with the level of rank.

Activities that would be considered as scholarship have three characteristics. Scholarship must be: 1) made public, 2) open to critical review and evaluation by knowledgeable peers and 3) accessible for exchange and use by others.

The  Faculty member is required to demonstrate at least one example within one of the four following focus areas of professional development and scholarship (detailed examples of each rank are outlined in the faculty handbook for reference).

  • Scholarship of Discovery
  • Scholarship of Integration
  • Scholarship of Practice/Application
  • Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $59,923.09 and $108,334.92. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
