Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) offers a unique program of training on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean. A cutting-edge curriculum, with innovative use of technologies and simulations, provides the best possible training for tomorrow’s veterinarians. Students benefit from seven semesters of integrated preclinical and clinical studies at our St Kitts campus, and one year of clinical training at our affiliate veterinary teaching hospitals in the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia.

Our ongoing research focuses on key issues strategically relevant to One Health in tropical and developing countries and includes zoonotic diseases, food safety and security, environmental health, and conservation medicine. Job Description

The primary purpose of uniformed campus roving patrol is the elimination of the actual opportunity, or the belief that the opportunity, for successful criminal conduct exists and to provide immediate and appropriate response to any individual who may need assistance. Close and careful observation is the principal function of every on-campus roving patrol officer. Careful observation enables the conscientious on-campus security officer to render assistance to individuals in need while at the same time eliminating the opportunity for criminal activity. In addition, foot patrols provide valuable interaction between the RUSVM Safety and Security Department and the RUSVM community. This interaction builds trust and understanding between the officers and the members of the RUSVM community. It is the responsibility of each and every security officer assigned to a foot patrol to act in a manner consistent with his/her position, friendly, courteous, professional and observant at all times.

It is the responsibility of any/all officer who are assigned to an On-Campus Roving Patrol – East assignment to ensure the safety, and security of all on-campus community members, facilities, information and systems. To accomplish this task, On-Campus Roving Patrol Officers assigned to the Eastern portion of the campus are responsible for the following activities:

•    Door Checks – During evening, nighttime and weekend hours, security officers assigned to the Roving Patrol Assignment will conduct door checks on all facilities utilizing the Door Check Procedure.

•    Security Escorts – During evening and nighttime hours, the Roving Patrol – East officer will make himself / herself available to conduct Security Escorts for any individual requesting such an escort (to either the Western or Eastern portion of campus). Escorts will be provided utilizing the Security Escort Procedure.

•    Radio Communication – The Roving Patrol – East security officer will be responsible for maintaining proper radio communications with Security Dispatch and fellow security officers. The Roving Patrol Officer will be responsible for conducting radio checks, check-ins and alerts as appropriate.

•    Respond to emergencies on campus and assist First responders and local authorities if needed. Emergencies may include but is not limited to natural disaster like a hurricane, fire, flooding or any criminal acts.

•    Ensure campus safety and security during lockdown or campus closure for emergencies.

•    Completes other duties as assigned.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

•    Must be willing to work on a shift basis including weekends and public holidays. May have to work extra hours during emergencies.


Qualifications

  • Secondary School Education with a minimum of four (4) CXC passes Required
  • Previous law enforcement or experience in security Preferred
  • Specialized Knowledge for Performance of Job.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be willing to work on a shift basis including weekends and public holidays.
