Walden’s Office of Academic Support and Instructional Services (OASIS) provides instruction to help students develop academic and professional skills for success. We align our instructional support with university-wide, degree-level learning outcomes. Collaborating with teams across Walden, the OASIS team ensures that students are connected with flexible, seamless instructional support where and when they need it.
The Associate Dean for Instructional Services plays a pivotal role by leading the OASIS instructional services team. This team provides student support in services including the university-wide Walden Orientation and Welcome resource for incoming students, peer tutoring, peer mentoring, support courses, writing support, doctoral residencies, and instructional design of skill-building resources. The Associate Dean also contributes to developing and implementing strategy for integrating and scaffolding OASIS skill-building resources into course curriculum across Walden degree programs. The Associate Dean will be part of the OASIS Leadership team and will report to the Dean of OASIS.
This role includes opportunities for communication and collaboration with faculty, academic administrators, and student-facing support teams at Walden related to retention, persistence, and instructional support. Key traits sought for the person in this Associate Dean role include being strategic, flexible, and organized. The person in this role will bring heart to their work with students and colleagues.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of project leads who conduct day-to-day operations for OASIS instructional services, including peer mentoring and tutoring, writing support, the Walden Orientation and Welcome, the SKIL support course program, and instructional design of synchronous and asynchronous skill-building resources, including videos and webinars.
- Coordinate with OASIS Leadership team to drive instructional services and university strategies, ensure projects, services, and resources led by the Instructional Services team meet degree-specific instructional support needs.
- Collaborate with OASIS colleagues to build and ensure alignment of instructional support with OASIS and university-wide priorities and learning outcomes.
- Collect and organize the Instructional Services team’s projects, resources, and support data in collaboration with the OASIS Lead Data Analyst.
- Work with the OASIS Content Management team to determine quality standards and best practices for OASIS instructional support content.
- Provide instructional support based on student needs. Support includes designing instructional material through audio, video, and self-paced modalities, lead and/or co-present live instructional sessions in concert with OASIS priorities and academic residencies.
- Engage with OASIS and/or university working groups, engage with university faculty, and participate in professional development opportunities.
- Contribute to building a positive team culture and a healthy workplace in OASIS and beyond.
- Other duties as assigned.
- A minimum of five years of experience in higher education, preferably in a supervisory capacity.
- Master’s degree with educational background and/or professional experience in online adult learning required; past or current doctoral program enrollment or completed doctoral degree, preferred.
- Experience leading and working with a team providing instructional support to students in online educational programs, particularly in a university cocurricular instructional department.
- Demonstrated experience in pedagogical best practices and teaching adult students online. Experience as an adult online learning student preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in data collection and reporting.
- Strong collaboration, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Adaptable and flexible based on students’ needs.
- Experience with learning management (e.g., Canvas, Brightspace), authoring (Articulate Rise or comparable), customer management (e.g., Banner, Salesforce), and/or data management (Power BI, Tableau, Qualtrics) systems and virtual communication tools (Microsoft Teams, Zoom).
In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $77,996.84 and $140,851.54. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
