Job Description

Reporting to the Provost and Chief Academic Officer, the Associate Dean, Academic Success, is responsible for providing leadership, support, and direction for the Center for Academic Excellence (CAE), and providing strategic leadership for undergraduate general education at Walden University. The CAE provides university-wide academic support services and resources that facilitate undergraduate and graduate student progress toward degree completion. CAE services and programs include the Walden Library, the Writing Center, Academic Communication, and Academic Skills Center. The Associate Dean supervises the directors of each service area. In this capacity, the position provides strategic direction to the CGE focused on providing support for undergraduate students that improves retention and graduation rates.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in meeting goals and objectives in support of the university’s mission.
  • Recruit, hire, develop and supervise departmental leaders and staff. Assess the effectiveness and outcomes of initiatives, programs and services.
  • Oversee the development and management of department budgets.
  • Participate in university-wide strategic and operational planning as a member of the Universities Leadership Team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree with terminal degree. 
  • 5 years of experience in higher education, preferably in a supervisory capacity. 
  • Experience with student skill assessment and remediation. 
  • Prior experience in a distance education environment desirable.
  • Demonstrated success in leading student retention initiatives. 

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $77,996.84 and $140,851.54. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
