Opportunity at a Glance

The Senior Manager – Technical Accounting is responsible for Adtalem Education Group's research and analysis on technical accounting matters for the parent company and subsidiaries, including assessing significant transactions and the impact of new accounting pronouncements. This role will be heavily involved in advising on transformation efforts, material contracts, and all other technical accounting matters to ensure accounting implications of transactions are understood by senior management. You will be on the cutting edge of regulatory pronouncements emerging from the FASB and SEC. The position will be significantly involved in improving the operational effectiveness of the accounting team to support growth and efficiencies. This position provides high visibility within the Finance organization with an excellent opportunity to work closely with key executives (CFO, CAO, Assistant Controller) and expert advisors. The position will be responsible working cross-functionally with Corporate Development, Legal, FP&A, Treasury, and other departments in the achievement of common goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Research and document accounting treatment for new products and significant/ complex transactions. Advise management on the implications of accounting treatment.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of complex accounting transactions to the general ledger.
  • Monitor the development and applicability of emerging accounting and reporting rules being deliberated by the SEC, FASB, PCAOB, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Assess and implement accounting policies and procedures for current and newly issued GAAP standards, including development of project plans. Keep management informed on the impact.
  • Draft disclosures for external financial reporting for new transactions and pronouncements.
  • Drives change for new processes and controls or improvements to existing processes and controls.  Empowers staff to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Ensures compliance with organizational policies, Sarbanes Oxley and internal controls, GAAP standards and statutory requirements.
  • Active involvement in discussions with external auditors to communicate accounting position on significant matters.
  • Provide periodic technical accounting trainings to the members of the Accounting and Finance organizations.
  • Analyze current procedures and recommend changes to develop and implement best practice accounting procedures.
  • Works closely and develops rapport with Home Office leadership (external reporting, FP&A, payroll, real estate, supply management), and Institution Finance leaders to identify gaps and improvements in financial and operational processes.  Provides guidance to other departments as necessary.
  • Support the Controllership on other ad hoc projects and requests as determined by management.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

***This role will have a hybrid work schedule and you will be required to work from the office three days a week.***

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting required.
  • 6 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least two years in leadership roles and demonstrated ability to build teams and develop talent, drive team objectives and performance and achieve results in a timely manner required.
  • Technical knowledge in U.S. GAAP, including deals, revenue recognition, leases, credit losses, derivatives, internally developed software, stock-based compensation, among other topics required.
  • Big Four accounting firm experience preferred.
  • Strong systems and process improvement experience preferred.
  • Specialized knowledge of accounting/technical skills; strong managerial skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Diligent and well organized.
  • Insightful and service oriented.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $77,996 and $140,851. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
