Job Description

Opportunity at a Glance
Under the general supervision of the Deputy Director of Safety and Security, the Communications Center Dispatcher receives calls for emergency assistance and dispatches necessary units; performs a variety of support duties related to the operation of a Safety and Security communications center. Responsible for maintaining effective and efficient communications on a timely basis with Mobile Patrol Officers, outside emergency and law enforcement agencies and RUSVM Leadership. Monitors security cameras and ensures dispatch of appropriate units/officers.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and processes emergency and non-emergency calls from members of the RUSVM Community both on and off campus.
  • Determines nature and location of emergency; prioritize; dispatch emergency units as needed and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintains communication with assigned units.
  • Determines need to contact local law enforcement agencies and communicate status of emergency calls received from members of the Ross community
  • Operates a variety of complex communications & computer equipment
  • Performs data preparation and enters information into a computer system.
  • Writes crime and incident reports.
  • Relieves other security positions as necessary.
  • Provides information to outside agencies such as local police force; fire rescue and emergency medical services and follow-up as appropriate
  • Assist the Security Technologist in ensuring that all security systems (Computer Aided Dispatch, CCTV) are in working order.
  • Performs a variety of support functions such as , indexing and record keeping, responsibility for management of lost and found
  • Perform duties of Supervisor if the Shift Supervisor is sick or on vacation.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
  • This position is a designated Campus Security Authority.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Complies with all policies and standards

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree Preferred
  • Prior experience in a dispatch center, parking and traffic control, radio communications or in public relations Preferred
  • Must be willing and able to attend and successfully complete all required training and continuing education.
  • Requires a minimum of 4 CXC passes which must include English.
  • Excellent command of oral and written language
  • Demonstrated ability to work under a fast and changing pace and to work calmly under stressful and/or emergency situations.
  • Ability to enforce and apply all laws, rules and regulations;
  • read, understand and interpret standard official legal documents; exercise judgment and discretion in analyzing and resolving problems;
  • read, correct and prepare clear and concise reports;
  • give, follow and understand written and oral instructions;
  • demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for, a diverse population; operate a personal computer and enter data into computer database;
  • follow standard procedures regarding the use of radios and department telephones;
  • work effectively under stress in emergency situations;
  • maintain cooperative working relationships. Remain calm in emergency situations. Convey clear, concise communications and directions.
  • Requires knowledge of site security and patrol techniques; crime prevention and safety training techniques; dispatch radio codes and procedures; automated records management systems; CAD and other Security Systems; and emergency preparedness and response plans.
  • Excellent knowledge of the geography of St. Kitts
  • Excellent knowledge of the locations of various businesses and institutions in St. Kitts
