Job Description

Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) offers a unique training program on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean. A cutting-edge curriculum, with innovative technologies and simulations, provides the best possible training for tomorrow’s veterinarians. Students benefit from seven semesters of integrated preclinical and clinical studies at our St Kitts campus, and one year of clinical training at our affiliate veterinary teaching hospitals in the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia.

A new Research and Pathology building was inaugurated in 2018, creating 13,000 sf of research space, including eight laboratories. The site features 2,000 square feet dedicated to pathology, including autopsy and histology suites, an overhead camera and interactive viewing gallery, a multiheaded microscopy room for 10 observers, a student, and space for small group meetings. The research and pathology sections of the building were designed to BSL-2 biosafety standards.

Our ongoing research focuses on key issues strategically relevant to One Health in tropical and developing countries and include zoonotic diseases, food safety and security, environmental health, and conservation medicine. We prioritize recruitment of talented colleagues and are now seeking a key new member of our team to join us as we develop new programs to best prepare our graduates to face the global opportunities and challenges of veterinary medicine in the 21st century.

The anatomic pathology training/MSc degree position is a three-year advanced training program beginning July 1, 2025. This position provides highly supervised training by four board-certified anatomic pathologists and an opportunity to earn an MSc degree in an area supported by one of the four research centers at RUSVM. The objectives of the pathology training are to provide a foundation for a career in veterinary pathology and preparation for certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, with the expectation to sit phase one in March 2027, and phase two in August 2028.

The successful candidate will join a team of five anatomic pathologists and one clinical pathologist. The resident will perform diagnostic pathology under the direct supervision of a pathologist and is expected to spend a portion of their time interacting with veterinary students mainly in laboratories and small group settings. Training and learning opportunities will focus primarily on necropsy and histopathology but also include a component of clinical pathology with exposure to a variety of domestic species, nonhuman primates and aquatic species. The resident is also expected to complete an MSc research program and to submit two manuscripts suitable for publication. Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Department or Division Head as needed.
