Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) offers a unique program of training on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean. A cutting-edge curriculum, with innovative use of technologies and simulations, provides the best possible training for tomorrow’s veterinarians. Students benefit from seven semesters of integrated preclinical and clinical studies at our St Kitts campus, and one year of clinical training at our affiliate veterinary teaching hospitals in the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia.

Our ongoing research focuses on key issues strategically relevant to One Health in tropical and developing countries and includes zoonotic diseases, food safety and security, environmental health, and conservation medicine. We prioritize recruitment of talented faculty and are now seeking a key new member of our team to join us as we develop new programs to best prepare our graduates to face the global opportunities and challenges of veterinary medicine in the 21st century.


Job Description

About the Job:

The position responsibilities include participation in teaching principles of large animal medicine, emphasis production medicine, to veterinary students in several team-taught courses, including Large Animal Medicine 1, Introduction to Clinics, Essential Veterinary skills. The successful candidate will contribute to the team’s responsibility for ensuring that all aspects of large animal medicine related courses comply with requirements for national and international accreditation, and facilitate optimal student learning. Additionally we seek candidates with the ability to obtain external funding and contracts, participating in national and/or international committees in their area of expertise as well as producing quality publications.  Completes other duties as assigned.

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments and requirements will I preform on a regular basis?

Expect a Variety of The Following :

  • Provide challenging, student-focused, delivery of a Large Animal Medicine courses utilizing multi-modal learning within a collaborative climate.
  • Commitment to student success and continuous learning through formative and summative assessment and curricular modification to ensure success of the students that is measurable.
  • Progressively build on student’s skills and knowledge through well-designed course modules accompanying model based and live-animal laboratories.
  • Contribute to the development of novel research initiatives or continue evolving your established research profile while collaborating with our experienced research scientists in one of our 4 institutional research centers .
  • Knowledge of teaching and learning strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Willingness to share talents with a sense of humor, and a hopeful, caring, and open attitude.

What is the structure and culture of the team like?

We are a small school with a diverse and proactive team focused on collaboration and providing a student and colleague centric environment of care and respect. You will join a team of 4 other large animal medicine focused professionals and 6 support staff colleagues.  The position will work under the guidance of the Division and Department Head.

Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent is required. Board certification in Large Animal Internal Medicine (American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine or European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine) or similar or eligibility to sit for exams is also required. 
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a DVM and PhD
