The mission of Ross Prep School is to provide an appropriate school for children of faculty and students of RUSVM while they are living on St. Kitts. The school will ensure that each student achieves academic success, develops a lifelong love of learning and becomes a responsible citizen in a global community. This will be achieved through an enriched US curriculum taught by highly trained and qualified teachers committed to motivating students and working in partnership with parents and the administration of RUSVM.


Job Description

Teachers are responsible for following and enriching the Prep School’s specific curriculum. In recognition of the high transient rate of students, it is essential that the adopted course-of-study be followed. In utilizing the set curriculum, teachers may strengthen their presentation with supplemental knowledge, creativity and varied instructional techniques and are held accountable for teaching to the specific stated standards in each area.


Ross Prep is seeking a Spanish teacher with coordinating duties in the afterschool program.

The Spanish teacher works under the direction of the Principal and will have the primary responsibility for planning, programming, and teaching Spanish in alignment with the Ross Preparatory curricular objectives in grades Pre-K- 8. Additionally, the teacher will be responsible for coordinating and working in the school’s afterschool program. Candidates must be dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment. The candidate should be able to work creatively in accommodating student needs, responding appropriately to the diversity and educational background of students and overcoming instructional challenges constructively.

  • Takes responsibility for reading and responding in a timely manner to information distributed by the administration.
  • Is constructive and cooperative in interactions with administrator, teachers, parents, and students and is receptive to their contributions.
  • Is a team player and shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of the RUSVM Prep School.
  • Maintain confidentiality for all Prep school community including but not limited to students, families, etc.
  • Contributes to the school community in at least one formal way beyond the classroom that does not include a stipend.
  • Promotes community service within and beyond the Ross community

 

Spanish Teacher Requirements

  • A love of students and complete dedication to their success, combined with a passion for the Spanish language and culture
  • Facilitate the development of strong comprehension and speaking skills, develop ease and confidence with reading and writing skills in the Spanish Language.
  • Encourage students’ integration of language learning across their daily academic experience,
  • Uses a variety of teaching methods, techniques and strategies creating an environment that is positive for student learning and involvement
  • Plans effective and varied assessment of student learning and keeps accurate records of student progress.
  • Communicates learning goals, high standards, and expectations of quality to students.

 

Afterschool duties

  • Assist and supervise children during all activities.
  • Actively engage with children at all times with the goal of fostering the positive development of each child and the group
  • Assist children with meal/snack time and clean-up.
  • Clean-up site when children depart. Inspect and return supplies to appropriate place. Follow proper cleaning requirements and procedures.
  • Ensure that site appearance, cleanliness and safe environment are appropriately maintained
  • Build a positive relationship with each after-school participant and foster positive connections between participants.
  • Interact professionally and appropriately with children, parents and community members and partners.

 


Qualifications

Must be able to speak, read and write the Spanish language fluently.  

Bachelors degree in education preferred.  

Experience teaching a foreign language required.       

US teaching credentials would be an advantage.
