Join Our Faculty at Ross University School of Medicine – Genetics & Biochemistry

Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM), located in the vibrant capital city of Bridgetown, Barbados, is seeking passionate and innovative educators to join our faculty team. We invite applications for a full-time faculty position specializing in Genetics, with the ability to contribute to Biochemistry instruction.

Our academic center is housed in the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Center, offering a dynamic and collaborative environment focused on excellence in medical education.

What We’re Looking For:

We seek dynamic, adaptive, and tech-savvy educators who are enthusiastic about teaching in diverse formats, including small group learning, interactive workshops, and digital content creation. Ideal candidates will embrace technology and be committed to student-centered learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging lectures, workshops, and small group sessions.
  • Prepare course materials including handouts, practice questions, and digital resources.
  • Create and utilize modern teaching tools such as videos, digital workbooks, and iBooks.
  • Incorporate educational technology platforms (e.g., Turning Point, Doceri, NearPod, Socrative, Kahoot).
  • Use mobile learning tools and iPads in instruction.
  • Advise and mentor students individually and in groups.
  • Collaborate with the Academy for Teaching and Learning to enhance student outcomes.
  • Write and review NBME-style questions for assessments.
  • Develop, administer, and evaluate examinations.
  • Continuously improve instructional materials and teaching techniques.
  • Participate in curriculum review and development with departmental colleagues.
  • Engage in professional development to enhance teaching and subject expertise.
  • Serve on faculty committees and contribute to course content updates.
  • Facilitate Case and Problem-Based Learning discussions.
  • Deliver interactive instruction remotely when needed.
  • Participate in other duties as assigned by the Department Chair or Campus Dean.
  • Comply with all institutional policies and standards.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Preferred Experience:

We’re looking for a committed educator with the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Terminal degree required: PhD, MD, or equivalent, with 3–5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong teaching skills and a demonstrated ability—or clear potential—to engage and inspire students.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • A genuine desire for self-improvement, professional growth, and continuous learning.
  • Flexibility and a collaborative spirit—someone who thrives in a team-oriented environment.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with proven teaching experience in the subject areas covered by the department.
  • Prior teaching experience at a North American or United Kingdom medical school is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with postsecondary teaching principles, methods, and tools is preferred.
  • A documented record of teaching effectiveness is desirable.
  • Comfort with educational technology, including e-learning platforms, audience response systems, online exams, and videoconferencing tools, is desirable.
  • Ability to demonstrate ongoing faculty development in medical education is desirable.
  • Experience with active teaching methods is preferred.
  • Capacity to initiate, complete, and present medical education research projects is desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to reside in Barbados is required.
