Job Description

Ross University School of Medicine invites applications for a faculty post to cross teach in two of the disciplines taught within the Department of Medical Foundations, namely Biochemistry, Genetics, Cell Biology, Histology, Physiology, Pharmacology, Pathology, Gross Anatomy and Neuroscience. A preference will be given to candidates who can cross teach Pharmacology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver effective lectures and facilitate active learning sessions, incorporating modern teaching tools and technology.
  • Prepare course materials, including handouts, practice questions, and digital content (e.g., videos, digital workbooks).
  • Engage with students through various formats, including one-on-one interactions, small group learning, and academic advising.
  • Develop, administer, and evaluate assessments, including writing and reviewing NBME-style questions.
  • Participate in curriculum review, development, and improvement initiatives within the department and across disciplines.
  • Contribute to ongoing faculty development in medical education and serve on faculty committees as appointed or elected.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in educational technology, including e-learning management systems, audience response systems, and online examinations.
  • Comply with all policies and standards, and perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair or Campus Dean.

Qualifications

  • PhD, MD or other relevant terminal degree with 3-5 years of experience required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in English required
  • Flexibility and ability to work well on a team
  • Willingness to reside in Barbados
  • Proven teaching skills, preferably in Pharmacology
  • Prior teaching experience at a North American or UK medical school preferred
  • Knowledge of postsecondary teaching/medical education principles and active teaching methods preferred
  • Proficiency in educational technology and e-learning systems desirable
