OASIS
Walden’s Office of Academic Support and Instructional Services (OASIS) provides instruction to help students develop academic and professional skills for success. OASIS houses seven teams: the Walden Library; Content Management; Content Operations; Instructional Services; and Undergraduate, Graduate, and Doctoral Academic Support. Following Walden’s Success by Degree framework, we align our instructional support with university-wide, degree-level learning outcomes. Everyone in OASIS collaborates with teams across Walden to ensure we connect students with flexible, seamless instructional support where and when they need it.
Across OASIS, we offer various instructional services and resources to support students’ skill development at all stages of their studies. The Librarian, Undergraduate Support will be a member of the Undergraduate team reporting to the Associate Dean of Undergraduate support. The primary responsibilities for the role will be acting as the library subject matter expert in the undergraduate team and providing direct support to undergraduate students through synchronous and/or asynchronous environments.
The individual in this role will secondarily support OASIS library services. In collaboration with the other OASIS librarians, this role will help support our Ask A Librarian services, which may include email reference, webinars, group advising sessions, and one-on-one appointments for both graduate and undergraduate students. Undergraduate librarian key responsibilities:
- Acts as a subject matter expert in information literacy and library skills within the Undergraduate team.
- Develops expertise in the needs of the students and faculty in undergraduate programs.
- Participates in providing direct support to undergraduate students through synchronous and/or asynchronous environments.
- Creates skills support instructional content as assigned.
- Participates in providing high-quality instructional services, such as tutoring, webinars, etc.
- In collaboration with teammates and faculty, reviews course content to identify opportunities for skills support.
- Maintains knowledge of the evolving content of the curriculum, goals, and expected outcomes.
- Participates in the thoughtful, student-centered design of curriculum, instruction, and support.
- Participates in collaborative projects and initiatives across the OASIS team.
- Collaborate with the key stakeholders in academic programs, academic centers, and course development.
Walden librarian collaborative responsibilities
Walden librarians are embedded in degree-based teams within OASIS, but also work as a collaborative, transversal library team through information sharing, collaboration, and mutual support. The Undergraduate librarian will also support general Walden library functions such as:
- Supporting Walden’s Ask-A-Librarian reference service, which may include email reference, one-on-one consultations, or group advising for both graduate and undergraduate students.
- Completing faculty and staff research support on request.
- Sharing information from the undergraduate team with Walden library colleagues as appropriate
- Ad-hoc collaborative projects such as library service pilots, collection reviews, or data projects
- Librarians may also help support doctoral residencies by leading or co-teaching library instructional seminars during these events.
- Earned ALA-accredited Master of Library Science/Master of Library Information Science.
- At least one year demonstrated successful experience coordinating instructional services and reference services in an academic library preferred.
- Experience designing and facilitating library instruction in an academic setting.
- Interest in developing instruction using emerging technologies and experience with one-to-many asynchronous learning opportunities.
- Demonstrated experience with educational/library instructional technologies and authoring tools (e.g., Storyline and Rise) and/or web authoring tools (e.g., SpringShare) preferred.
- Strong understanding of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy.
- Commitment to advocating for the learning and development needs of students earning their degrees in a distance learning environment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds in a collaborative manner.
- Be flexible in adapting to new responsibilities, initiatives, and priorities based on students’ needs during the academic year and across degree programs.
- Ability to creatively solve problems.
- Availability for flexible scheduling that may include nights and weekends when needed to meet student needs. Some travel may be required.
In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $41419.01 and $75065.24. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
