Walden’s Office of Academic Support and Instructional Services (OASIS) provides instruction to help students develop academic and professional skills for success. We align our support with university-wide, degree-level learning outcomes. Everyone in OASIS collaborates with teams across Walden to ensure we connect students with flexible, seamless instructional support where and when they need it. Walden has approximately 9,000 doctoral students studying in 27 programs. On OASIS’ Doctoral Academic Support team, we provide students with instructional support in line with the university’s doctoral-level competencies and learning outcomes.
The Coordinator, Methodology Advising (Qualitative) on the Doctoral Academic Support team serves as a qualitative methodology advisor and provides instructional support to doctoral students to help them strengthen their skills in qualitative methodology concepts and practices. The Coordinator offers individual and group instructional consultation and support in asynchronous and synchronous modes to help students conceptualize, plan, and implement their doctoral research studies. This role requires a flexible full-time schedule that includes some evenings and weekends. The person in this role will report to the Manager of the Methodology Advising team in OASIS Doctoral Academic Support. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide instructional support in qualitative concepts and skill development for doctoral students.
- Provide instructional support to help doctoral students to conceptualize, plan, analyze, and write their qualitative dissertation or doctoral research.
- Provide the above support in synchronous (e.g., one-on-one and group virtual advising, live virtual events, virtual and on-site academic residency presentations) and asynchronous (e.g., email) modes, based on student needs and in alignment with OASIS priorities. On-site academic residencies require occasional travel.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to review, develop, and update OASIS instructional resources for qualitative skill development in doctoral courses to ensure they are aligned with learning outcomes.
- Collaborate with the OASIS peer tutoring team to provide coordinated, seamless instructional support for students throughout their doctoral programs.
- Communicate with students and faculty via email, including by monitoring team email role accounts.
- Develop expertise in Walden’s doctoral curriculum to help inform our team’s vision and work.
- Support the Methodology Advising Manager in implementing strategy aligned with OASIS goals and in collecting, analyzing, and reporting data on student and faculty use of our services and resources.
- Participate in doctoral team, OASIS, and university committees, working groups, and professional development.
- Support other duties as assigned in line with Walden and OASIS priorities and student needs, which include a flexible work schedule during and outside of regular business hours.
- Contribute to building a positive team culture and a healthy workplace in OASIS and beyond.
As their time permits, the Coordinator, Methodology Advising provides additional direct student support. Based on their experience, the person in this role will flex to provide instructional support based on students’ needs and team priorities. Support can include:
- Reviewing course curriculum to ensure relevant OASIS instructional resources are included to scaffold students’ skill development throughout their Walden program.
- Tutoring students in academic skills topics based on the Coordinator’s experience.
- Contributing to development of effective audio, video, or self-paced instructional resources.
- At least five years of experience teaching, consulting, and/or tutoring doctoral students in qualitative methods and providing feedback to support their research study progress; familiarity with quantitative concepts and skill development, preferred.
- Doctoral degree with educational background and/or professional experience in online adult learning.
- Experience serving on doctoral committees, particularly using qualitative methods; experience serving as a qualitative methodologist, preferred.
- Experience with developing curriculum, workshops, or instructional materials in qualitative research methods.
- Experience working with a team to provide instructional support to adult learners in online educational programs, particularly in a university cocurricular instructional department.
- Experience providing online instructional support in synchronous and asynchronous modes to doctoral students and faculty.
- Evidence of publications, presentations, or other scholarly activity, preferred.
- Experience with learning management (e.g., Canvas and Brightspace), authoring (Articulate Rise or comparable), customer management (e.g., Banner and Salesforce), data management (Microsoft Excel, Power BI), and/or virtual communication tools (Microsoft Teams and Zoom).
- Value working collaboratively with individuals from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
- Strong problem-solving, collaboration, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt well to change in a fast-paced environment based on students’ needs.
In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $70,696.34 and $124,230.14. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
