- HYBRID – If you reside within 50 miles of Adtalem offices in Chicago, IL, Addison, IL, Columbia, MD, Minneapolis, MN, and Miramar, FL this role is hybrid, requiring office presence three days a week (Tue, Wed, Thu), with the rest of the workweek spent working from home.
- REMOTE – If you live over 50 miles from Adtalem offices in Chicago, IL, Addison, IL, Columbia, MD, Minneapolis, MN, and Miramar, FL, this role is remote. However, occasional office visits may be required based on business needs, with advance communication for such requests.
Opportunity at a Glance
This position is responsible for providing leadership, support, and direction for services, research, staff, and/or resources of Walden University. Responsibilities:
The Dean of Student Progress and Success leads the Office of Academic Performance. The person in this role is responsible for ensuring that Walden leaders, faculty, and staff are able to make data-driven decisions and foster a strong and successful learning and working environment by identifying and addressing barriers, bridging gaps, connecting people building a caring community, and assessing outcomes. The dean provides oversight for individuals and teams responsible for providing institutional research and analytics for Walden and driving efforts to delivering and exceptional student experience. The Dean provides oversight for the leaders responsible for the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Walden University’s initiatives around inclusive teaching and learning, student retention and success and belonging and community of care. The Dean of Student Progress and Success work collaboratively across the university with executives and leaders throughout the university to achieve the goals of Walden University strategic plan and to provide intelligence or lead Walden University Transformation initiatives. As a leader in the Division of Mission Performance, the person in this position will work collaboratively with other leaders in this area to advance the mission and strategic goals of Walden University. The Dean of Student Progress and Success reports to the Vice Provost for the Division of Mission Fulfillment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership in Student Success
- Develop and implement a data-driven and comprehensive student success strategy plan that aligns with the university’s mission to enhance student retention and persistence from the first year through graduation for all degree levels and modalities.
- Track retention, persistence, and completion by cohort and the general student population.
- Identify student success gaps at Walden University and facilitate efforts to provide targeted interventions that address academic, social, financial, and emotional barriers to success from beginning to end of the student experience.
- Analyze and report retention data to the leadership team, utilizing insights to shape continuous improvement efforts.
- Work across the organization to leverage best practices and increase institutional knowledge.
Student Engagement, Retention, and Persistence Initiatives
- Lead the development and execution of retention programs and student success initiatives across the lifespan.
- Collaborate with faculty leadership to develop a strong sense of belonging and academic engagement.
- Work with university partners to ensure a cohesive and supportive student experience from enrollment through graduation and beyond.
- Oversee holistic institutional assessment approach that includes student, faculty, staff, and alumni experiences.
Data-Driven Decision Making and Reporting
- Utilize data analytics to assess the impact of student success initiatives and retention efforts.
- Prepare regular reports on student success metrics, including retention rates, graduation rates, and the success of intervention programs in the aggregate and diverse student cohorts.
- Use predictive analytics to identify and prioritize student needs, allowing for timely and effective interventions.
- Provide support and resources for Interdisciplinary Research Labs

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Earned doctorate in the relevant discipline and area preferred.
- Record of excellence in research publication and presentations
- Experience in mentoring faculty and students.
- Experience in doctoral education.
- Experience developing faculty and student support solutions preferred.
- Editorial and peer reviewer experience preferred.
- Experience writing grants and working with foundations and agencies preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, team participation, team building, and human relation skills.
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds in a collaborative manner.
- Ability to creatively solve problems.
- Ability to write effectively in both business and academic styles.
- Experience with distance learning preferred.
- Some travel required.
In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $97,253.99 and $175,761.85. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
