Opportunity at a Glance
This individual will be responsible for, under the direction of the Lead of the Office of Student Disability Services (OSDS), (1) ensuring equitable processing of requests in the interactive process of accommodations for individuals with disabilities, (2) implementing and conducting training for any student facing colleagues and (3) staying current on statutes at federal and state levels. This position currently has no direct reports but will work closely with various institutional offices and leadership, including Adtalem Legal, to ensure successful accommodation approval and implementation.
Responsibilities
- Maintains comprehensive knowledge of regulatory requirements regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (504) state and local regulations and relevant compliance standards
- Maintains strict confidentiality regarding all aspects of student information
- Creates and conducts comprehensive training for colleagues
- Drafts and processes accommodation notifications for students
- Provides content and updates for student-facing collateral
- Serves as resource for faculty in supporting students
- Obtains necessary ongoing training to stay updated on changes to compliance requirements and processing requests
- Collaborates with the Web Accessibility Specialist to ensure program accessibility standards in learning platforms, for communications and implementing approved accommodations
- Maintains cooperative, respectful, and professional relationships with colleagues while fostering an inclusive community
- Expected travel at 10%
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Complies with all policies and standards
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Experience in higher education required
- 3 years of accommodation coordinator experience preferred
- Knowledge of barriers to accessibility in education preferred
- The incumbent must possess superior interpersonal and communication skills.
- The incumbent will be expected to “hit the ground running,” and must be a self-starter, a solution-finder, and a forward-thinker
- The incumbent must possess not only in-depth knowledge but show analytical skills capabilities and may be asked to provide written samples of work.
In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $42661.58 and $75065.24. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
