Job Description

Opportunity at a Glance

The Clinical Medical Science (CMS) Faculty will support the Academy of Teaching and Learning (ATL) by contributing to the educational and professional development of medical students through teaching, mentoring, and curriculum enhancement. This dynamic position involves engaging students in active, inquiry-based learning methods, fostering critical thinking, and providing individualized academic support to ensure their success.

CMS faculty members do not provide clinical care as part of their faculty responsibilities, and licensure in St. Maarten is not required for this full-time faculty position.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Curriculum Development and Teaching

  • Co-lead and participate in teaching within curricular modules using flipped classroom approaches, active learning, and small group sessions.
  • Design and deliver interactive lectures, small group sessions, case-based presentations, and simulation activities.
  • Prepare, administer, grade, and report written and clinical examinations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary teaching materials and activities.

Clinical Skills Development

  • Facilitate competency-building in clinical interviewing, physical examination, and case-based reasoning.
  • Supervise educational activities in actual or simulated scenarios, including OSCEs and standardized patient encounters.

Academic Support and Coaching

  • Provide one-on-one academic coaching to help students overcome challenges and optimize their learning potential.
  • Lead small group interventions to enhance academic literacy and performance.
  • Design and deliver formative assessments that engage students and foster skill development.

Assessment and Quality Assurance

  • Analyze and improve assessment strategies, ensuring relevance to USMLE Step 1 and CBSE content.
  • Collaborate with ATL and faculty teams to align teaching and assessment with curricular goals.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Serve on university committees and actively participate in institutional initiatives.
  • Support the development and implementation of policies and procedures that enhance academic programs.
  • Uphold institutional policies and standards while contributing to a collegial and inclusive academic environment.
  • Participate in other activities as assigned by the department chair or executive dean

Qualifications

  • MD, MBBS, or equivalent terminal degree.
  • Completion of residency training in a clinical specialty, with recent practice experience preferred.
  • Board Certified/Eligible by ABMS (American Board of Medical Specialties) or equivalent (e.g., Royal College of Physicians in Canada or UK).

Experience & Skills

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience Required
  • Expertise in clinical teaching and student support, particularly with diverse or non-traditional learners.
  • Familiarity with USMLE Step 1 preparation and assessment strategies.
  • Proficiency in educational technologies, including e-learning platforms and online exam tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to mentor and collaborate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in curriculum development and pedagogical innovation.
  • Knowledge of educational theory, learning psychology, and principles of adult education.
  • Experience supporting students with disabilities or those for whom English is a second language
