Job Description

Chamberlain University is currently looking for qualified Science Faculty to teach our Chemistry courses. This position provides the educational focus of teaching (classroom, field/practicum, and other learning environments) as well as committee work in the health professions or general education courses/programs. Service to the College, community, health system, profession, and scholarly activities are integral aspects of this position. The faculty are expected to meet outcomes yearly as indicated in an annual Individual Performance Plan.

  • Teach online Chemistry courses meeting a workload credit of 42-45 per year.
  • Support our accessibility mission, providing support to students with a wide range of backgrounds including supporting students facing social detriments of learning challenges. 
  • Hold online office hours. 
  • Hold 3-4 online review sessions each term. 
  • Take responsibility for program outcomes by implementing the College’s philosophy, curriculum, and course objectives through classroom, online, clinical teaching, and service to college, community, health system and profession as appropriate for the discipline.
  • Develop curricular/teaching innovations in the annual preparation and revision of all assigned course(s).
  • Assume responsibility for all autonomous aspects of individual teaching loads.
  • Provide documented feedback to students on level of performance based on course outcomes.
  • Provide student remediation within assigned courses.
  • Serve as a positive professional role model for students, assisting in their professional/social development.
  • Serve as an informal leader, mentor, and role model for other faculty and staff in the areas of customer service, collaboration, communication, excellence, and general professionalism.
  • Mentor new faculty members.
  • Participates in professional activities outside the College.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the programs and the philosophy of the College.
  • Participate in academic advisement and counseling for an assigned group of students while participating in assessment of potential and real counseling concerns for all students with whom the faculty come into contact.
  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of student admission, progression, retention, and graduation policies within the College.
  • Provide opportunities for student and graduate evaluation of curriculum and teaching and program effectiveness.
  • Provide recommendations to the program coordinator regarding budget needs for the college.
  • Assume leadership, as appropriate, within the College by accepting or initiating, as part of the workload, responsibility for activities such as: Chairing or serving on College committees Chairing and/or serving on work groups that contribute to preparation for accreditation visits. Gathering and analyzing data related to the Systematic Evaluation Plan Serving as course coordinator or Subject Matter Expert (SME) Documenting actions taken in faculty and committee meetings as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate scholarship through the Scholarship of Teaching, Discovery, Application, or Integration congruent with expectations of assigned rank.
  • Demonstrate a practice of scholarly teaching characterized by keeping course materials and content current, applying principles of evidence-based teaching, participating in and welcoming peer review of teaching, and reflecting on one’s own teaching.
  • Exhibit Applied Practice Expertise (for Faculty in Health Profession Disciplines).
  • Monitor field/practicum agencies for appropriateness for student applied practice experiences and ability to meet course outcomes.
  • Plan applied practice experiences for, and provides direct/ indirect supervision and evaluation of, health profession students.
  • In cooperation with field/practicum agencies and college departments, provide oversight of field/practicum preceptors/mentors for student applied practice experiences and coordinate and evaluate those preceptors/mentors.
  • Communicate up-to-date information about field/practicum agency policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Post developed applied practice assignments consistent with students’ knowledge base, skill competency and learning needs.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.

 


Qualifications

  • Earned a master's or doctorate degree in Chemistry with a minimum of 18 or more graduate credit hours earned directly in Chemistry. PhD Preferred
    • Chemistry; biochemistry; organic chemistry; Analytic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical  Chemistry, Theoretical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Clinical BioAnalytical Chemistry, Computational Chemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, Neuro Chemistry, Material Science, Food Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Toxicology, Agricultural Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Astrochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Nanochemistry
    • Alternate Degree Fields (must confirm 18 hours of coursework in disciplines to the right): Pharmacology, Cheminformatics
    • Recommended Courses: Faculty members can have Master's with 18 credits in any of the course listed below: Advanced Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Advanced Analytical Chemistry, Nanotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Materials Chemistry, Organometallic Chemistry,  Chemical Kinetics, Chemical Thermodynamics, Advanced Physical Chemistry, Synthetic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Statistical Chemistry, Computational Chemistry, Astrochemistry, Drug Discover & Development, Polymer Chemistry, Solid State Chemistry, Surfaces and Colloids, Electrochemical Methods, Spectroscopy, Quantum Dynamics, Combinatorial Chemistry, Physical Methods of Materials Chemistry, Enzyme Reaction Mechanisms, Surface Chemistry, Physical Measurements, Molecular Modeling,  Atmospheric and Environmental Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Separations, Biphotonics, Nanomaterials, Chemometrics, Bioinorganic Chemistry, Mass Spectroscopy, Organic Reactions, Statistical Thermodynamics, and Special Topics in Chemistry.
  • Have at least 2 years of higher education teaching experience (highly preferred)
  • Possess a genuine passion for chemistry, education, and lifelong learning
  • Have at least 15 credit hours of online teaching. preferred 
  • Have exceptional subject matter expertise as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess strong online teaching skills and the ability to break down complex topics to less academically prepared students
  • Are eager to serve students and colleagues with passion, respect, and care
  • Operate with a sense of responsibility and purpose with the desire to enrich colleagues, students, and the broader community
  • Have a strong work ethic, learn from mistakes, build a positive spirit, and always look for a better way
  • Put the team first, appreciate diverse points of view, assume positive intent, collaborate and communicate openly
  • Are able to provide official and unofficial transcripts for all earned degrees from a regionally accredited institution

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $53,520.9 and $96,736.53. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
